Whole House Humidifiers

Keeping your home's humidity levels in check can significantly improve the healthfulness and comfort of your home.

When it comes to feeling comfortable in your home, the old saying "it's not the heat (or cold) - it's the humidity" rings true. Other than ambient temperature, nothing affects a body's perception of comfort more than the humidity level. And there's a fairly narrow range between what is considered "too much" and "too little" of it.

Industry experts state that keeping your home's humidity between 30% to 60% can help reduce the effects of many unwanted conditions. Excess humidity or too little humidity can not only lead to an unhealthy home but also cause permanent damage to your home and belongings.

Too Little Humidity

You experience chronic physical symptoms such as sore throats, dry/itchy skin, nose bleeds or sinus irritation.

Why Ultraviolet Light?

For over a century scientists have known that certain frequencies of light have a devastating effect on microbial life. We now know that exposure to ultraviolet light in the range of 254 NM (UV-C band) disrupts the DNA of micro-organisms thus preventing them from reproducing, thereby effectively killing them.

UV Light - A Well Established Disinfection Technology

UV light disinfection is now widely used in hospitals and laboratories to sanitize instruments and work surfaces and to prevent the spread of potentially lethal airborne infectious diseases. The technology is used by the food industry to sterilize food before packaging, and water treatment systems large and small now incorporate UV light as a chemical-free means of purification.

A Cleaner Air Handler

Installation of a germicidal UV light inside the air handler inhibits the growth of mold there which saves energy by allowing the system to operate more efficiently. A cleaner system also requires less maintenance.

Germs in the Air You Breathe

Like it or not the indoor air you breathe has a lot of stuff in it that you don't want. Like viruses, bacteria, mold, mildew, and allergens. Some are only annoying, others can make you sick. Because air passes repeatedly through your HVAC system (in fact many microbes like the cool dark damp interior of the system) this is the ideal place for germs to multiply and spread throughout the house.

A Whole-House UV Air Purifier - The Best Defense

Because it works inside your central air system, a whole-house UV air purifier is able to intercept airborne pathogens and destroy them as they pass by. As air cycles through the system it passes by the UV light many times exposing and re-exposing airborne microbes to it's sterilizing effect. This has proven to be a safe, economical, chemical-free way to significantly reduce airborne contaminants indoors.

Electronic Air Cleaners

The most efficient air filter for improving air quality is the electronic air cleaner. Air returning to the furnace or air handler passes through a screen to trap any large dust particles or objects. Using line voltage to power circuitry, a positive electrical charge of high voltage (upwards of 12,000 volts) is sent through fine wires stretched across the air stream immediately behind the screen. The dust particles pick up a positive charge, then pass through plates or grids that are negatively charged. Opposites attract, and the dust particles collect on the plates. Smoke is microscopic particles, and is trapped as well. Ozone is created from the charged air, which helps kill bacteria and odors.

Electronic air cleaners will usually operate at 95% efficiency, allowing little or no dust to pass through. The dirtier they get, the lower the effectiveness, so clean grids are a must. Before removing the screens and grids for cleaning, it is imperative to shut the power off and wait a few seconds to allow the grids to lose the static charge. They are dishwasher safe as long as they fit inside. If not, sloshing around in a tub of hot soapy water will loosen dirt that can be blasted off with a garden hose.
